From Garage to Game Room: Park Your Pool Table with Room to Spare

Garage to Game Room Pool TableWhether your game is pool, carom billiards, snooker or bumper pool, if you want to play cue sports (as they are referred to collectively), at home you’re going to need some elbow room. Six feet in every direction (measured outward from the rails), is about right.

What Dimensions Should I Consider in Turning My Garage to a Game Room?

Since most houses don’t have an available empty room with dimensions approximating 20’x 16’ relocating the pool table to the garage could be the perfect solution. The typical bar-size pool table measures 8’x4’ and cue sticks are nearly 6’ in length, so the math is pretty simple. If the cue ball is close to the rail, you may need 6’ or more straight out from edge of the table to accommodate your backswing, unless you are happy using one of those half-size cue sticks for those tight-to-the-rail shots.

The garage is more than just a place to store the car. For most Americans it serves as the hub of seasonal activity for families — storing lawn care and sporting equipment, tools, patio furniture and more. And now, new research indicates more than 70 percent of homeowners use their garage door as the primary entrance into their houses. With the garage door serving as front door to the home, many family members no longer even carry house keys.

If you pressed homeowners to be honest, between all of its added uses, most would admit their garages are chaotic messes. Luckily there are many easy things you can do this season to get your garage in better shape.
